Already a medical treatment hub in the region, the city may also become a centre for manufacturing medical equipment soon with Indo-UK Institute of Health (IUIH) 'Medicity' coming to Mihan. The institute is in the process of tying up with 40 medical equipment manufacturers across the globe.
Larsen & Tubro has started construction of Medicity. With investment of Rs1,600 crore, the project has been designed by the well-known IBI Group while Cushman and Wakefield are project managers
IUIH CEO Dr Ajay Rajan Gupta said, "The first phase of Medicity was planned to come up in three years. However, as the prime minister and chief minister want this to be fast tracked; we shall be ready with a 250-bed hospital by 2019
Project coordinator Dr Rajdeep Chhina said, "We are also relying heavily on technology and have tied up with IT majors for big data analytics. Our e-Health and m-Health platforms will facilitate exchange of patient's medical records electronically using telemedicine, tele-radiology and tele-pathology
Besides this, the city's Medicity will be the central logistics hub of the supply chain for all 11 IUIH Medicities in India. "We are in talks with 40 NASDAQ listed companies, who are our partners in this project, and IUIH Medicity Nagpur will become the manufacturing site for medical equipment as well," said Vinay Singhal, one of the board members in IUIH
Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation (MADC) managing director Suresh Kakani said, We've been working very closely with IUIH team. Clearances that generally take longer are being fast tracked for them. We have also offered them office space on rent on our premises
An Indo-UK task force, involving government representatives from both sides, is helping drive the initiative forward. The Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare conducts meetings every six months to update the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) regularly
